my mom is watching an extremely triggering episode of dr phil where they have a transgender man (who is 30+ years old) talking about how his family doesn’t believe he’s ready to transition.

except they keep using the wrong pronouns and constantly calling him by his birth name every five seconds and telling him he’s going to burn in hell.

and dr phil basically said “if you do this, no woman will ever love you because of your body” in more words than that but it was the general idea.

and the guy plainly said “i’m not doing this for other people” and it was just brushed off and they kept attacking him. 

then they told a story of a transgender woman who was brutally murdered but kept referring to her by the wrong pronouns and the wrong name as well. and said they murdered her when they “found out he was a man”.

i told my mom “you know everything they’re saying is wrong, right?” and she just walked away from me and then came back and said “at least they’re raising awareness.

there is a right and a wrong way to raise awareness. this is the wrong way.
